How Our Training Works:
During this program, you will learn how to use Crystal Reports to customize the reports in Spectrum and how to create your own from scratch. Upon completion, you will have experience with:
- Modifying existing Spectrum reports and forms
- Using the Crystal Reports designer
- Locating information in the Spectrum database
- Sharing completed reports with others
- Developing reports for detecting trends, opportunities, and potential problems
What Makes Our Classes Special:
Our course focuses on the knowledge required for Spectrum reporting and we eliminated much of the techno-babble found in other programs. You will learn best practices and time saving techniques. The course spans financial, accounting, and operational reporting so you will be skilled in a wide range of topics. Every hour is packed with demonstrations and hands-on activities.
This course is available online or in your office (ideal for small group training - request a private training class here). After class, your instructor will be available to answer questions about the reports you want to create and to help you get started on them.
Instructor: Thor Kolner
Thor literally “wrote the book” about Spectrum and Crystal Reports. His experience and fun style of teaching have been popular at Spectrum conferences and regional classes for over 20 years. He eliminates much of the techno-babble found in other programs so you can focus on learning best practices and time-saving techniques.
"The class went really well, Thor is an excellent teacher. What I learned has been sufficient in the smaller-scale projects and issues we had. I would recommend the training to anyone."

4 Course Modules:
Module 1
During this opening module, attendees learn how to connect Crystal Reports to their database and build single-file reports from scratch. Topics include:
- The Database Expert
- Adding, removing and formatting data
- Inserting labels, images, and Special Fields
Module 2
The Spectrum database contains thousands of data files that can be used to build reports. Knowing which to use for a specific report can be an enormous challenge. This module presents methods for reducing research time and how to turn raw data into useful information. Topics include:
- Data Research
- Linking Database Files
- Sorting and Summarizing
Module 3
Spectrum users can choose two methods for developing reports: Use Crystal Reports to build reports from scratch, which is covered during the first two modules of this course or modify the standard Spectrum reports and forms to meet a company's unique needs. This module focuses on the latter of these options. Topics include:
- Customizing Spectrum reports
- Adding data files to Spectrum reports
- Arithmetic calculations
Module 4
This course is intended for new users of Crystal Reports but it’s more than a “basics” class. This module introduces concepts typical found in more advanced courses. It guides attendees through the process of building analysis reports that are essential for tracking critical financial data. Topics include:
- Adding parameters to reports
- Control Structure formulas
- The Cross-Tab Expert
