For the second time, the city’s efforts to find a contractor to build its first bus rapid transit line have ended in failure. The largest single grant this round ($13.7 million) was awarded to The City of Philadelphia for construction of the Wissahickon Gateway Trail and the Passyunk Connection, which will close a gap in the Schuylkill River Trail next to historically disadvantaged communities. The city will complete a 39-mile off-road, riverside, multiuse trail between Montgomery County and Southwest Philadelphia and use it as an anchor for development, including retail shops, offices, housing, public transit service, green space along the river and multiuse trail connections.
